A note for people management

분류없음 2010/02/10 15:12
As reading the article about people management, I was thinking about my company.

Even manufacturing firms already realized to improve its manufacturing for quality and speed meant breaking the old paradigms, but as a young & new firm, my company is in the status of new paradigm? or is it willing to move toward to new paradigms?

New vs. Old Paradigms at Levi Strauss

* Old Paradigm :
- Economy of scale as basis for improvement logic
- Quality involves trade-offs
- Doers are separate from thinkers
- Assets are things
- Profit is the primary biz goal
- Hierarchical org; goal is to please the boss
- Measure to judge operational results

* New Paradigm :
- Economy of time as basis for improvement logic
- Quality is a "religion"; no compromise
- Doers must also be thinkers
- Assets are people
- Customer satisfaction is the primary biz goal
- Problem-solving network org; goal is to please the internal or external customer
- Measure to help people make operational improvements

Ellie became a Model Student in her class

분류없음 2010/01/29 03:08
My daughter, Ellie got the prize in her class. Her teacher, Ms Brambilla picked Ellie as a Model Student who is a kind of role model of the class. Actually two students would be "Model Student" every week. Her class have started this program this week, so Ellie was one of the first model students in her class. For a week, the Model students should answer questions from other classmates as well as have a right not to do homework for a certain whole week. Ms Brambilla guided other students to follow the Model students. Because of that, Ellie could talk more with her classmates, and i think it would be a good chance to understand what is the good behavior in class.
It's a small event, but I am frankly proud of my daughter. So far she looks very well to adapt new culture in the US.

What happened in my fall semester

분류없음 2009/12/18 15:08
- Tried to apply the Delta model and the experimental process for my company, Daum.
- Formed a team with Kanako, Kim, and Courtney for taking G-Lab project. So far, the performance of the team looked pretty good. I will go to Malaysia next Jan. for the project. For three weeks we would work for the firm, "JobStreet".
- Bought only two books including e-book in this semester. After arriving here, it has been very hard to read a book during the semester.
- Subscribed economist both of online and offline versions.
- My daughter Ellie and I were participated in the Fellows Get Talent show organized by our cohort. We enjoyed a lot the show!
- During the thanksgiving holiday break, went to Puerto Rico with my friends and family.
- My favorite class in H1 of fall semester was Alan's Tech innovation class, and the other favorite for H2 was Simon's Global Markets class. I enjoyed those classes even there were the final paper and the exam.
- NY. Trip of SF2010 was finished. I learned some lessons as well as had a great time with my friends and family.

I think I tried to work hard in the fall semester. After arriving of my family, in terms of the "Work load" was increasing obviously. But, as much as I love my little girl Ellie and my mom, I love my career as well.
I am willing to be better than now. For that, probably I would be busier than now next spring semester.

And I am looking forward to going K/L for my client, JobStreet.com.
